Metroidvania games are one of my favorite type of exploration games. The different ways your abilities can be used to progress further and to find secrets, the need to check every nook and cranny for that one upgrade or that one loose tile that you can go through. It really makes exploration worth it. That same concept is used in the 2D pixellated metroidvania shooter, Beyond-Human.

You play as Adam, a man who has woken up in the year 2099 from a coma. He doesn’t remember who he is, what is going on, or what has happened. All he knows is that the world has ended due to an alien invasion and he has to fight his way through them all to find the answers that he wants. He will have to shoot, dash, and slash his way through them all. The more enemies you take down, the more money you get. The more money that you get, the stronger you can make your character by getting gun upgrades, suit augments, and power enhancements. These aren’t the only way to get power-ups. You can also get them the old fashion way and find them stashed in a secret room somewhere.

The gameplay is precise and is very satisfying when you are able to defeat that one pesky enemy that has been giving you trouble. The music is mysterious and creates a very tense atmosphere along with the background and setting. The world is wrapped in mystery and you have to fight through hundreds of aliens to find out what happened to you and the world.
